1 Was Christ a Creationist?
Why the answer matters: 1. Because Christ is our Master Teacher. Mark 9:7; John 7:16; 13:13; Matthew 23:8,10; 28:18-20 2. Because Christ himself brought everything into existence. John 1:1-3,14; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Colossians 1:15,16; Hebrews 1:1-3 3. Because Christ’s words are not to be trifled with. Mark 8:38; Luke 21:33; Acts 3:21-23

2 Was Christ a Creationist?
The key Scripture text: Matthew 19:3-6 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

3 Was Christ a Creationist?
Observations: Deductions: 1. Jesus refers to “the Creator.” 1. He is clearly some sort of creationist. 2. Jesus quotes prooftexts from Scripture. 2. He is clearly a Biblical creationist. 3. Jesus treats Genesis as historical, authoritative. 3. He is clearly a Genesis literalist. 4. Jesus gives the time of human creation as “at the beginning.” 4. He is clearly a young-Earth creationist.

4 . . . but if Genesis is true, man was created within the first second!
Jesus said: “. . . at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ (Matthew 19:4, compare Mark 10:6, “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ” If all of the time since the formation of planet Earth is scaled to “one hour”: . . . then, if evolution is true, man arrived only within the last few seconds! ~ 4.6 billion years ago: Formation of Planet Earth (“one hour ago”) ≤ 5 million years ago: Arrival of Hominids (“≤ 4 seconds ago”) . . . but if Genesis is true, man was created within the first second! ~ 4030 years before Jesus taught: Formation of Planet Earth (“one hour ago”) Day Six: Creation of Man and Woman (“less than one second later”)

5 “Perhaps the crowning example of Jesus’ attitude to the Old Testament comes in Matthew 19:4,5.”
— Michael Green The Books the Church Suppressed: Fiction and Truth in The Da Vinci Code. Oxford: Monarch Books. p. 42. “Our Lord honours Holy Scripture by drawing his argument therefrom. He chose specially to set his seal upon a part of the story of creation—that story which modern critics speak of as if it were fable or myth.” — Charles Haddon Spurgeon (originally: 1893). Spurgeon’s Popular Exposition of Matthew. Grand Rapids: Baker Book House. p. 158.

6 Objection: “Couldn’t Jesus have been simply accommodating himself to his hearers?” Response: Consider Jesus’s entire consistency in expressing his high view of Scripture (1) to all sorts of hearers (2) on all kinds of occasions

7 Are you a professed Christian but not a creationist?
Conclusion: Are you a professed Christian but not a creationist? It is urgent that you rethink your position!
