1 Your Top 7 Motivational Drivers with Charan Sarai Practice Manager Adviser

2 Are you motivated? Has anyone asked that question of you?
Or does it show in everything you say and do?

3 Practice managers are saying to us that they don’t feel motivated in the way they used to.
What's causing this? Is it change? Is it lack of support? Heavy workloads? Or do you just need a re-think? So 2017 has the number 7 in it. Many people seem to think that this number has special meaning. The number 7 is the seeker, the thinker, the searcher of Truth (notice the capital "T"). The 7 doesn't take anything at face value -- it is always trying to understand the underlying, hidden truths. The 7 knows that nothing is exactly as it seems and that reality is often hidden behind illusions. 7 means, "You're on the right path, keep going forward in the direction you're heading."

4 Thoughts … 1 Whilst we can think of our practices, today I want you to think of the top seven motivators in your own life. 2 So what is motivating you to work? Is it a means to an end? I NEED to work. 3 Or is it giving you standing or prestige? 4 Or do you feel as though you are putting something back into society and back into the NHS?

6 So if that’s the case, lets think about our TOP Seven Motivational Drivers…
TOP DRIVER 1 BELIEVING THE GOOD ON THE INSIDE Be internally motivated, not pushed into a certain direction but willing to explore the new NHS world which is full of potential and possibility. Don’t be the judge be the humble one that learns from mistakes and successes of others and accepts feedback to challenge themselves.

7 TOP DRIVER 2 INTEGRITY You are not a people pleaser but authentic, you work with integrity, look for the positives and what's working. You work with moving that forward rather than dissecting the negatives. You know your own abilities and continue to push beyond what's comfortable. There are NO limits to your SKY. REMEMBER – There are no ceilings on your life

8 TOP DRIVER 3 VISION You dream big and aim big. If you can see it in your visioning you can do it. YOU believe it! REMEMBER - “Without vision men perish”

9 TOP DRIVER 4 LISTEN WELL You are really good at listening and you are good at seeking out people who will be honest with you. You don’t throw out the ones that have been there before in fact you take time to see what's gone on before. You are good at switching to the positive channel and not get pulled into the negative repetitive channel who doubt and want you to doubt too. REMEMBER - People who believe in you will follow you.

10 TOP DRIVER 5 BE FIT - BE POSTIVE Get the positive habit in place. What ever that is. You cant do everything because this is number one on the burn out platform. What you can do is be in the best state you can be. Whether it’s a daily 10 minutes on the cross trainer or 10 minute brisk walk you need it. This helps to channel that pent up stress and also has a positive impact on your life and not a destructive one.

11 TOP DRIVER 6 STREAMLINE You know how to streamline and you know how you can reinvigorate yourself and remind yourself why you're doing what you're are doing. You look for new ideas and new ways of working and learn how to streamline the service. You know how to conserve energy and save the key components on whatever you're working on so it’s new, bright, innovative and you WILL succeed.

12 TOP DRIVER 7 ORGANISATION You know you are organised…
You are not too stubborn to ask for help and advice. You may be very confident but you are not proud and will ask. You always pre-plan and prep. You don’t leave things to chance and organise your day and as a result you're much more PRODUCTIVE.

13 A Manager’s Focus REMEMBER – Blessed is the flexible
We need to remind ourselves that we can be a great source of inspiration to our staff. Studies show a fair boss will inspire greater dedication and productivity. Roll your sleeves up and join in now and again. It works wonders. We need to maintain that positive workplace interaction and be mindful about the culture we create and the sentiments we express. Remember negative emotions generally cause managers to be seen as less effective. Do the small things that show you care. You will reap from it. Encourage self care, exercise, breaks. A staff member that is well rested will be a lot happier. Lead by example and take care of yourself too. In the very busy world of general practice it is easy to lose sight of what really drives employees well being. Take a fresh look and add the human touch by inspiring them, being kind and encouraging them. Build up not pull down. REMEMBER – Blessed is the flexible
