What were some white customs the Cherokee adopted?
They were Buddhists, owned lumber and grain mills. They learned to read and write English. They adopted Christianity and owned lumber and grain mills. They created their own nation with laws and money system.

Why would Thomas Jefferson believe moving West was the only way for Native Americans to preserve traditions? He believed they would come in conflict with Americans living near them. He believed it was in their best interest to save their culture He believed that if they didn’t, they would all die. He believed it was a great idea.

Indian Removal Review Q: What was the Indian Removal Act? A: The Indian Removal Act was passed by Congress on May 28, 1830, during the presidency of Andrew Jackson. The law authorized the president to negotiate with southern Indian tribes for their removal to federal territory west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their ancestral homelands. Many were forced to leave their homelands and move West to Oklahoma.

Indian Removal Review Q: Why would the United States want to force Native Americans to move? A: The concept of Manifest Destiny. It’s a period of American expansion that the United States not only could, but was destined to, stretch from coast to coast (sea to shining sea). This attitude helped fuel western settlement, Native American removal and war with Mexico. Why would the United States want to force Native Americans to move?
