3 What is Subordinate Conjunctions
A subordinating conjunction is a word which joins together a dependent clause and an independent clause. Sentence : E.g. I read the paper because it interests me .  Dependent clause – Because it interests me  Independent clause – I read the newspaper  Conjunction – Because

4 What is Subordinate Conjunctions
The subordinate conjunction has two functions :  Function 1: 1) It denotes a change between the two ideas in the sentence. This change will indicate a time, place, or cause and effect relationship. here are some Example: We looked on top of the refrigerator, where jenny often hid a bag of chocolate chip cookies.  Function 2: 2) In this particular function a clause is given more importance. Less importance is given to the clause introduced by the subordinate conjunction. Example: As Samson blew out the birthday candles atop the cake, he burnt the tip of his nose on a stubborn flame.

The following words are used as Subordinate Conjunctions After Although As Because Before How If Once That Though Till Unless When Where While

6 Examples of Subordinate Conjunctions
a)After: "Call me after you arrive at work”. b)Although: "Although she was tired, she couldn’t sleep”. c)As: "As we explained last class, coordinating conjunctions are sentence connectors”. d)Because: "I painted the house because it was a horrible color”. e)Before: "Come and visit me before you leave”. f)How: "Let me show you how to knit”. g)If: "It would be fantastic if you could come to the party”. h)Once: "Once you’ve learnt how to cycle, it’s very easy”.

7 Examples of Subordinate Conjunctions
Since- Since you say so, I must believe it . That- Tell them that I will come. When – When I was younger I thought so. Where- He found his watch where he left it . Though – He finished first though he began late. Until- I waited for my friend until he came.

8 Read the paragraph I’ve lived in India for the past 10 years. I am not familiar with most of the places although I have been living here for so long. I live in India because my husband works here. As I mentioned earlier I am still unfamiliar with the places here and hence I find it quite tough to live here even after 10 years. I want to be familiar with India before I leave for France. Once I get familiar with the places I would feel more comfortable. I need someone to guide me on how to reach the important monuments in India.
