5. Addressing Excess Funding
To prevent returning unexpended funds to CNCS, Program Committee/Staff recommended resolving issue by Supporting grantees with increased budgets and cost/MSY to:
Budget for evaluation training/implementation costs conducted by a contractor selected by Nevada Volunteers.
Budget for additional professional development of program directors and staff such as attendance at National Conference on Volunteering and Service or Financial Management Grant Institute.
Budget for additional professional development/leadership training for AmeriCorps members to be coordinated directly by Nevada Volunteers.
Budget for a $5 per member, Member Assistance Program.
Work with planning applicants to launch early operational programs*.

6. Addressing Excess Funding
Truckee Meadow Parks Foundation opted to include evaluation training, an additional conference and MAP in their budget.
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is able to shorten planning grant time period and will launch an operation program with Nevada Volunteers support this grant year.
Three Square Food Bank is assessing feasibility of early operational program.
Continue to look for leaders in education arena to build program to explore how national service can be applied as a strategy to meet education needs.

7. AmeriCorps Competitive Program Facts
Great Basin Institute/Nevada Conservation Corps
Nevada’s longest running AmeriCorps program, NCC Members serve on public lands statewide conducting conservation services including trail building and maintenance, forest fuels reduction, invasive species removal and monitoring.
Nevada Statewide Coalition Partnership Partners in
Prevention (POP) (NyE Communities Coalition)
This is new funding under the CNCS Healthy Communities emphasis on prescription drug and opioid abuse and prevention. Members serve statewide to connect people struggling with abuse/addiction to support services.

8. AmeriCorps Formula Program Facts
Nevada Outdoor School
Multi-focused, intermediary model program that has been serving rural Nevada communities for over a decade. Members serve in a wide variety of capacities from bringing meals to seniors to teaching environmental stewardship classes to children.
Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation
Members teach citizen science based education using public lands as laboratories in Washoe County. Program engages volunteers in citizen science projects, community outreach, stewardship of public lands, and support of the student stewards program.

9. AmeriCorps Formula Grant Facts
Nevada Statewide Coalition Partnership AmeriCorps
Program (NyE Communities Coalition)
Program uses a unique coalition model to deliver education services to rural communities throughout the state. Community Education Workers connect children with much needed services in the hardest to reach communities.
City of Las Vegas
Members serve in southern Nevada providing support to disadvantaged youth in My Brothers Keeper schools targeting school readiness and improved literacy outcomes for K-12 students. The program includes a volunteer recruitment component and a parent engagement component.

10. AmeriCorps Formula Grant Facts
Nevada Department of Veterans Services
Members serve statewide engaging Nevada veterans and their families through outreach services helping them to access resources, programs, and benefits that will assist in poverty reduction and improve employment outcomes. This program design includes placement of veterans in job training and leadership positions.

11. AmeriCorps Planning Grant Facts
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful*
Proposes to develop an AmeriCorps program that will bring environmental education and cleanup programs to the Southern Nevada and rural communities that are most impacted by blight and illegal dumping. 
Three Square Food Bank*
Proposes to develop an AmeriCorps program in Las Vegas, and the surrounding areas, to address the issue of food insecurity in these communities through a combination of interventions including food pantries, SNAP, nutrition education, and volunteer engagement. 
*both of these applicants may be moving to operational

12. Action Items Approve current portfolio as presented.
Approve Nevada Volunteers staff to work with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and Three Square Food Bank to increase their requests and MSY, so that they can begin operational programs this grant year if feasible.
Approve Nevada Volunteers to work with programs to add additional budget items.
Direct staff to continue to work to identify education program leadership.
