World Hunger Set to Increase Present Path is Unsustainable FOOD PRESERVATION FOOD PRODUCTION I would like to thank you for this opportunity to talk to you about "A More Sustainable Path Toward 'Zero Hunger." World Hunger is set to increase and I don't believe that we are on a sustainable path to address this critical problem. We need to make important decisions as to where we are going to invest our agricultural dollars in the future if we are to effectively address world hunger. One critical decision is what portion of our agricultural dollars should we put into food preservation as opposed to food production.

2 World’s Food Supply is Shrinking
GLOBAL WARMING BALLOONING POPULATION DETERIORATING ENVIRONMENT The World’s Food Supply is Shrinking One one side we have a rapidly ballooning population. On the other side we have a rapidly degenerating agricultural environment. Now Global Warming has come on the scene and threatens to greatly restrict crop production. In the past we have been able to meet food shortage crises by simply growing more food as we did during the “Green Revolution.” We know know that even with our advanced technologies we are not going to be able to grow enough food this time to meet this new food shortage crisis. We need a more effective and sustainable strategy to address this crisis. NEED A SUSTAINABLE STRATEGY TO DEAL WITH THIS CRISIS

3 CHILDREN SUFFER MOST FROM WORLD HUNGER
13% of World’s Population Suffers from Chronic Hunger Every 3.6 Second a Person Dies of Hunger Children in developing countries are in the crosshairs of this nexus of food loss/waste and global warming. Thirteen Percent of the World’s population suffers from chronic hunger Every 3.6 seconds a person dies of hunger in the world 75% of these individuals are children.

4 PRESENT INVESTMENTS PRIMARILY IN FOOD PRODUCTION
Should We Emphasize FOOD PRODUCTION or FOOD PRESERVATION in Attacking WORLD HUNGER? FOOD PRESERVATION FOOD PRODUCTION The reason that I believe we are not on a sustainable path toward zero hunger is because: Ninety five (95%) percent of our agricultural investments presently are in food production and only five (5%) percent in food preservation. 5% 95% Confidential World Food Preservation Center® LLC

5 RETURN ON INVESTMENT 1-2% RETURN 10-15% RETURN FOOD PRODUCTION
FOOD PRESERVATION These meager investments in food preservation compared to investments in food production actually don't make good economic sense. In what limited studies we have it has been shown that we can expect a % return on our investment in food preservation as compared to a 1-2% turn on our investment in food production. 6 WORLD IS CLEARLY RUNNING OUT OF FOOD Need a Long-Range and Sustainable Path to Meet the Crisis
By 2050 the World Population Is Expected to Grow by ¼ and Reach 9.6 Billion. SUPPLY The world is clearly running out of food. By 2050 the world’s population is expected to reach 9.6 billion people. Taking into account our present advanced technologies a study at the University of Minnesota look at what our food supply and demand would be at the end of 2050. I think you will find the results astounding. Here is our supply and demand for maize – rice – wheat – soybeans. We are cleary heading toward a major world food shortage crisis. Ray, D. K., et al.
