2 What is tone? Tone is one of the many literary devices used by writers to create a literary work.

3 What is the definition of tone?
Tone: the reflection in a work of an author’s attitude toward his or her subject, characters, or readers So… tone is how the author feels – about: The subject The characters The readers

4 What kind of “attitude” can an author show toward something?
Positive – likes it Negative – does not like it Suspicious – does not trust it Sympathetic – feels sorry for it Fearful – fears it Enthusiastic – thinks it is great
