1 Postoperative Refraction and Patient Satisfaction after Bilateral Implantation of Presbyopia-Correcting Intraocular Lenses Robert Cionni, MD Financial Disclosure: the author of this e-Poster is a Consultant to Alcon and has received research funding and presentation support from Alcon Research, Ltd.

2 Purpose To evaluate predictability of refractive outcomes and patient satisfaction after bilateral implantation of presbyopia- correcting intraocular lenses with aspheric apodized diffractive or aspheric and spherical accommodative optics.

3 Methods Cataract patients with <1 diopter of corneal astigmatism underwent on-label, bilateral implantation of: ReSTOR IQ +3.0D add IOLs Crystalens AO IOLs Crystalens HD IOLs Refractive enhancements were not permitted before study end 6-month, prospective, randomized, subject- masked study 3 month interim results are presented here Study conducted at four-centers in the US

4 Methods Manifest refraction (MR) was measured preoperatively and postoperatively at 1 and 3 months Patients self-rating of bilateral vision (without glasses) was evaluated using the Cataract TyPE questionnaire* Rating scale of 0 to 10 (0=best, 10=worst) * Javitt J, Jacobson G, Schiffman R. Validity and reliability of the Cataract TyPE Spec: an instrument for measuring outcomes of cataract extraction. Am J Ophthalmol. 2003;136:

5 Patient Demographics AGE GENDER N-Value Mean Age in Years (SD)
Age Range IQ ReSTOR +3.0 D IOL 47 63.4 (9.4) 41 to 81 Crystalens HD IOL 44 64.0 (7.8) 50 to 79 Crystalens AO IOL 41 65.3 (7.5) 50 to 81 Between-treatment p-value: p = 0.56 GENDER N-Value Male Female IQ ReSTOR +3.0 D IOL 47 40.4% 59.6% Crystalens HD IOL 44 43.2% 56.8% Crystalens AO IOL 41 36.6% 63.4% Between-treatment p-value: p = 0.82

6 Mean Postop Refraction 1-month visit
Postoperative myopia observed among eyes implanted with Crystalens IOLs * *P<.0001; denotes statistically significant difference between IQ ReSTOR +3 IOL and Crystalens HD & AO IOLs.

7 Mean Postop Refraction 3-month visit
Postoperative myopia observed among eyes implanted with Crystalens IOLs. * IQ *P<.0001; denotes statistically significant difference between IQ ReSTOR +3 IOL and Crystalens HD & AO IOLs.

8 Predictability of Refraction within ±0.5 D
* * N=74 N=76 N=55 N=53 N=59 N=61 *P=.02; IQ ReSTOR +3 IOL compared with Crystalens HD IOL

9 Self-Rating of Uncorrected Vision
Mean ratings were highest for the apodized diffractive IOL group (+3.0 D), followed by the aspheric (AO) and the spherical (HD) accommodating IOLS. Best * * Better Rating Worst *p< 0.001

10 Conclusions One and three months after bilateral implantation of presbyopia-correcting IOLs, patients had: more predictable refractive outcomes with aspheric apodized diffractive IOL than with the accommodative aspheric or accommodative spherical IOLs  greater satisfaction with the aspheric apodized diffractive IOL than with the accommodative aspheric or the accommodative spherical IOLs
