2 Great Britain and HISTORY OF THE FLAG:
Great Britain is a country situated in the north-west part of Europe. It is on an island separated from Europe's mainland by the English Chanel.

3 Geographical Location
It has an area of km2. There are many smaller islands such as: Shetlands, Orkneys, Hebrides. Great Britain consists of: England, Wales, Scotland. The capital of Great Britain is London which is situated by the Thames River.

4 Political System This country is a constitutional monarchy. It means that the Queen is the head of the state but the main power has the Parliament and the government. Nowadays the Queen of Great Britain is Elizabeth II.

5 History of the country The most famous British monarchs were: King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria.

6 Sport The English are very found of sports. The most popular sports are: football, cricket, horse racing, rugby, tennis, golf.

7 Curiosities The name John Doe is a symbolic name of any British person like Polish Jan Kowalski The highest peak is Ben Nevis [1344 m] The longest river is Severn River [338km] Nowadays only 10% British people eat the typical breakfast and most drink more coffee than the tea with milk. The oldest university in Great Britain is in Oxford. It was founded in 1167.

The Beatles - famous pop group from Liverpool:  John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. D. Beckham - the best football player. Robin Hood - an outlaw who robbed the rich and gave money to the poor. He lived in Sherwood forest near Nottongham.

9 Culinary Curiosities The best known British meals are breakfast and tea. The typical breakfast consists of eggs, bacon, sausages and sometimes beans and toast. The popular custom is the afternoon tea which is usually served at 5 pm together with sandwiches, cakes or other sweets. Another well known British fast food dish is fish and chips.
