Jesus was a teacher of his followers. He taught them many things and often did this by speaking in parables.
A parable is a story that is designed to teach you something. It has a moral.
He spoke in parables for a few reasons:
It was a good way to explain a point he was making. He used them as an analogy.
It allowed him to talk in a coded way so that his enemies would not know what he was talking about.
It made his lessons interesting.
People remember stories.
