1 Ecology Notes

2 Biotic Something that is living or was once living.
Examples: Bones, eggs, all plants, all animals

3 Abiotic Something that is not living and never was living.
Examples: Rocks, water, air, fire, soil

4 Multi-Cellular An organism that is made up of many cells.
Examples: All animals, humans, all plants

5 Unicellular An organism that is made up of a single cell.
Example: Paramecium, amoeba, euglena

6 Sexual Reproduction Processes in which two parents contribute genes form a new Individual . Example: You, Trees, cats, dogs, bushes, flowers, most bugs

7 Asexual Reproduction Reproduction involving one parent organism with new organisms being identical to the parent. Example: Skin cells, bone cells, worms, paramecium, amoeba, euglena, bacteria

8 1. All living things Have cells
Some organisms are made up of more than one cell and some are made up of just one cell (uni-cellular).

9 2. All living things sense and respond to change.
When something changes in an organisms environment, that organism will be able to sense and respond to that change.

10 3. All living things Reproduce
Some organisms reproduce Asexually or Sexually

11 4. ALL LIVING THINGS HAVE DNA
DNA provides instructions for making molecules called PROTIENS which determine an organisms characteristics.

12 5. All living things use Energy
Living things use energy to make food, break down food, and move materials in and out of cells.

13 6. All living things Grow and develop
Unicellular (single-celled) grow bigger. Multi-cellular organisms increase their number of cells to develop
