6 PALCI eBook Program EBSCO & ebrary Demand-Driven Acquisitions Programs
Purchases triggered on first “substantial” use ~ 20 libraries participated in each Own titles collectively, limited user copies per title 600 titles – ebrary; 929 titles – EBSCO Feedback: Good cost per title; Unpredictable; Program didn’t last long enough! Next Year: ebrary & EBSCO DDAs will continue 10% increase in library contributions Modifications to the publisher profiles through YBP: Review of publishers Limiting pub dates to more recent years, price capping titles De-duplication against subscription packages Exploring the purchase of DDA backlist content on behalf of ALL PALCI members (i.e., licensing previously purchased DDA content for all 67 PALCI institutions)

7 PALCI eBook Program Books at JSTOR Demand-Driven Acquisitions Program
Purchases triggered when titles reach a negotiated threshold of use Usage measured collectively AND cumulatively Challenges in predicting use; thresholds fluctuated 50 libraries, 1 copy purchased per 65% discount 134 perpetual, unlimited user titles purchased; ~20k/40k titles used Feedback: Well-liked for uninterrupted access to discovery pool, used more like a subscription Next Year: On hold, A disappointing proposal from JSTOR 40% increase in PALCI expenditure over last year; highest triggering threshold contractually possible (~250 views/150 downloads) All risk falls on member libraries (turns off when $$ runs out) Usage does not zero out at the beginning of next year, starting with use on ~30,000 titles PALCI has proposed different pricing models (EBA, subscription)

8 Free Trials for Fall 2016 PALCI has arranged for free trials to both the ProQuest & EBSCO subscription ebook content, available to students and faculty An additional trial will be set up to ProQuest Ebook Central’s new platform for library staff ONLY No cost to members & no cost to PALCI Contains more than 160k titles on each platform Trials will be integrated in your regular channels/profiles Access will end in late December, unless PALCI moves forward w/a subscription Important to communicate to faculty Working with vendors now to setup trials very soon
