2 The  Romans come to  Britain nearly 2000 years ago and change Great Britain.
Before people was ruled by people called “The Celts.” Even today, evidence of the Romans ruins can be seen in Great Britain. Buildings, forts, roads, and baths can be found all over Britain.

3 Who are the Romans? The Romans live in Rome, a city in the centre of the country of Italy . One day the Romans come to Britain. The Romans want Britain's precious metals. They called the land ‘Britannia’, which meant 'land of tin'. However, they aren't just a destructive force - they built new forts, towns and roads. They spread their culture, language and laws.

4 When do the Romans invade Britain?
First invasion - Caesar's first raid In August 55 B.C. (55 years before Jesus was born) the Roman  Emperor Julius Caesar invades Britain with two Roman legions. After winning several battles against the Celtic tribes (Britons) in south-east England he returnes to France.

5 Second invasion Caesar's second raid
The following summer (in 54 B.C.) Caesar comes to Britain with five legions (30,000 foot soldiers) and 2,000 cavalrymen (horse riders). This time the Romans crossed the River Thames. After more fighting, the British tribes promise to pay tribute to Rome and are then left in peace for nearly a century.

6 Third and final invasion
Nearly one hundred years later, in 43 A.D. years Emperor Claudius organizes the final and successful Roman invasion of Britain. They cross the Channel in three divisions, landing at Richborough, Dover, and Lympne.

7 Why do the Romans invade Britain?
The Romans want Britain's precious metals as iron, zinc, copper, silver and gold. They called the land ‘Britannia’, which meant 'land of tin'. However, they aren't just a destructive force - they built new forts, towns and roads. They spread their culture, language and laws

8 How long do the Romans stay in Britain?
The Romans remained in  Britain from 43 BC to 410 AD. That is almost four hundred years (four centuries)

9 What language do the Romans speak?
The Romans speak a form of Latin known as vulgar Latin. It was quite different from the Classical Latin that we learn today.

10 Why do the Romans leave Britain?
Their homes in Italy are being attacked by fierce tribes and every soldier is needed.

11 What do the Romans call London?
The Romans call London 'Londinium'. The River Thames is a quick way to transport goods between  Britain and the Continent. The Romans see this and built the town of Londinium around the river's main crossing point.

12 What do Romans give to Britons
Language Before the Romans arrive there was no written language in Britain. They teach important Britons how to read and write – and how to speak the Roman language - Latin. And even today, two thousand years later, a lot of our words come from Latin, like 'enormous' and “victory”. The Calendar Did you know that the calendar we use today is more than 2,000 years old? It was started by Julius Caesar Laws and a legal system The laws come originally from the Roman Empire. The Census The Roman Empire was huge and included millions of people living over a large area. How did they keep track of all these people? Easy! They counted them

13 The Romans even bring animals, like rabbits, to Britain
Temples and… The Romans also built temples, towns, roads. Coins the Romans make using coins to buy things popular throughout the whole of Roman Britain.
