1 Vinton County Local Schools
Viking Success Career Advising Plan

2 Why do schools need a Career Advising Plan?
Students need repeated opportunities to engage in career awareness, exploration, and planning activities. Students need multiple opportunities to gain insights to their interests, aptitudes, values, and preferences, as related to careers.

3 Why do schools need a Career Advising Plan? (cont.)
Students need to see the relevance/connection between school subjects and the world of work. Students need to learn about the labor market’s in-demand jobs (jobs waiting to be filled). Students need insights to the cost/benefit ratio for training, higher education, and cost of living expenses.

4 Why do schools need a Career Advising Plan? (cont.)
Students need to be aware of alternative educational opportunities such as CCP, Credit Flex, Career Tech. Students at risk of dropping out of school need early intervention and a plan for success.

5 Why do schools need a Career Advising Plan? (cont.)
Because our students face these important concerns: Many students want to attend college or career centers, but may lack the knowledge, support, resources, etc., to plan for and succeed with their goals Many students lack a clear vision of what it takes to do what they want (academic preparation, financial resources, time commitment) Many students need help identifying and securing careers that can help them be happy and successful

6 Viking Success Career Advising Plan is to address these student needs.
Why do schools need a Career Advising Plan? (cont.) Our students tell us they need all of these things, beginning as early as possible. The purpose of the Viking Success Career Advising Plan is to address these student needs.
