United States: National Climatic Data Center Free access from government and educational domains. Some fees apply for access from other domains. No fee if you download data on campus.

2 To get a single station’s data (US Stations Only):
Data Section  digital ASCII files  Daily Surface Data Your request will set up a query on the NCDC database system. You’ll get an when the dataset is ready (for small datasets when NCDC is not busy this will be within seconds).

ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/gsod/ Station ID numbers, names, Lat, Lon, elevation in file ish-history.txt Individual station files (zipped text format) organized in folders by year, filename given by station ID number.
