2 The Wrath of God Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

3 The Wrath of God How do we know it will come? 1. It is revealed. Rom. 1:18 2. By recorded examples. How do we know? We have been told. We see examples: The Flood – Genesis 6 Sodom and Gomorrah – Genesis 13

4 The Wrath of God Why does it not come now? 1. He has appointed a day. Acts 17:31; 2 Thess. 1: To show His power. Rom. 9:22 3. That we may repent. Rom. 2:4, 5 He has appointed a Day: (Acts 17:31 NKJV) "because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." (2 Th 1:7-10 NKJV) and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, {8} in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. {9} These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, {10} when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. He is showing His power: (Rom 9:22 NKJV) What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, That we may repent: (Rom 2:4-5 NKJV) Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? {5} But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

5 The Wrath of God When will it come? In the judgment. Rom. 2:4-5
(Rom 2:4-5 NKJV) Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? {5} But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

6 The Wrath of God Upon whom will it come? 2. The ungodly. Rom. 1:18
1. The unbeliever. John 3:36 2. The ungodly. Rom. 1:18 3. The unrighteous. Rom. 1:18 4. Those that hinder the truth. Rom. 1:18 5. The unclean. Eph. 5:5, 6 6. Fornicators. Eph. 5:5, 6 7. The covetous. Eph. 5:5, 6 Upon the Unbeliever: (John 3:36 NKJV) "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.“ The unrighteous: (Rom 1:18 NKJV) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, The ungodly: Romans 1.18 Those who hinder the truth: Romans 1.18 The unclean: (Eph 5:5-6 NKJV) For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. {6} Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Fornicators: See above passage

7 The Wrath of God Upon whom will it come? 8. The impenitent. Rom. 2:5 9. The self-seeking. Rom. 2: Evil-workers. Rom. 2:9 11. The disobedient. Col. 3:6 12. Those with evil desires. Col. 3:5, 6 The impenitent: (Rom 2:5 NKJV) But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, The selfish: (Rom 2:8 NKJV) but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath, Evil workers: (Rom 2:9 NKJV) tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; The disobedient and those with evil desires: (Col 3:5-6 NKJV) Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. {6} Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,

8 The Wrath of God How can we escape it? 1. By Christ’s deliverance. 1 Thess. 1:10 2. By being justified. Rom. 5:9 (1 Th 1:10 NKJV) and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. (Rom 5:9 NKJV) Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
