3 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Romanian project text in Romanian  Developed between 2010 and 2013 by a consortium of 6 Romanian Technical Universities (7 “fluid engineering” departments) “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi Technical University of Cluj-Napoca “Dunarea de Jos” University Galati “Politehnica” University of Timisoara University “Politehnica” of Bucharest Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest

5 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform The main objective of the project is to renew and modernize the Romanian education system dealing with “fluid engineering”. (The different names of the 7 departments, was the main reason why the term “fluid engineering” was chosen. We teach, basically the same discipline, with specific targets: ships; aircrafts; pumps; turbines; geophysical flows; water supply systems; urban sanitation systems; bio-fluid flows etc.) We are not trying to build: a single standard line of study in “fluid engineering”; a “fluid engineering” MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).

Think more like a “fluid engineering” LEGO set.

7 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform The platform is not “open access”. To get an account one has to be either a teacher or a student in the partner universities (or a former student). LEGO - consists of colorful interlocking plastic bricks and an accompanying array of various other parts. Lego bricks can be assembled and connected in many ways ( The basic elements of our platform can be thought of as bricks, blocks, tiles, etc., that can be assembled in many ways. There are different categories of tiles and different categories of users.

8 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform User categories: Administrators Teachers Students IT managers (create and validate accounts, general management of the platform) Teachers - 6 (validate tiles that are added to the platform) Create any type of tiles; use any type of tiles Use any type of tiles; view remote experiments tiles

A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Tile categories (interlinked databases): Concepts - theory Interactive applications - problems Remote experiments - lab Visualizations – video clips Books - .pdf library Other material - PowerPoint presentations, assignments, etc Learning paths - curricula Content on the 17th of May 2014: 911 Concepts; 403 Applications; 12 Remote experiments; 326 Visualizations; 193 Books; 63 Other material; 28 Learning paths

12 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Concepts: Theory parts that can normally be explained in class in less than half an hour. Divided into categories and subcategories for ease of access Fundamentals (definitions, properties, general laws, models - used by all partners) Basics (targeted models, definitions – used by most of the partners) Complex concepts (specific to a field of study – used by some of the partners)

14 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Interactive applications: Problems, solvers (input some data, get results) 2 types: Simple – run directly in the browser Complex- need a third party program to be installed on users computer

15 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Remote experiments: Laboratory test rigs operated remotely. 12 test rigs available (2 from each partner) Users need a third party software installed to access the test rigs (2X – remote desktop). Only teachers cam actually operate the rigs. Students can only view the experiments and download measured data.

16 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Visualisations: Video clips that illustrate fluid engineering phenomena. Built either from numerical simulations or experiments

17 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Learning paths: Assembly of tiles in an array Created by teachers

18 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Learning paths: Assembly of tiles in an array Used by students

19 Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform
A "Learning Path” towards the Personalized Engineering Education Fluid Engineering Informatics Platform Conclusion Flexible educational tool; Useful to teachers as well as students; Both modern and original educational tool; It’s a work in progress.
