The TENder Commandments
Sermon The TENder Commandments Ex 19:1-8; Deut 4:1-8 Introduction
2
Our lives are like fluff, unless the Grace of God with all it’s greatness, comes in and writes His Law on our hearts.
4
Pascal…”There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.”
5
And the person is God Himself, as He is known through Christ.
When it comes to finding meaning and purpose the answer is a “Who”, not a “what”. And the person is God Himself, as He is known through Christ.
6
There Israel encamped before the mountain, 3 while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
7
5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’
8
These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”
7 So Moses came and called the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him. 8 All the people answered together and said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do.”
9
And Moses reported the words of the people to the LORD
And Moses reported the words of the people to the LORD. 9 And the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.”
10
are Someone you meet before they are commands to obey.
The values embedded in The 10 Commandments are Someone you meet before they are commands to obey.

Deut 4:1, 5-8 “And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the rules1 that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
12
5 See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say,
13
‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people
‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ 7 For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the LORD our God is to us, whenever we call upon him? 8 And what great nation is there, that has statutes and rules so righteous as all this law that I set before you today?

God’s love gave us His law, just as His love gave us the gospel –
J.I. Packer
15
Why we should study the Ten Commandments
-We live in a world that has lost its moral center. The Ten Commandments reconnect us to timeless, changeless wisdom and truth that God has given us for our own good.
16
-They call us to grace For the Christian believer, living under the moral authority of the Ten Commandments becomes a path of joyful fellowship with God and guides us as we seek to love others.
17
They also calls forth the gospel in the life of the believer.
They slay us and humble us, thus driving us to Christ.
18
The good news is GOOD, considering the reality of our own sin and the condemnation we deserve for violating the Law of God.
19
The same Holy Spirit who empowered Jesus to obey, lives in us, and His desire is to lead us to walk in God’s ways.
20
The ABC’s of coming to faith –
A - Admit that you’re weak and need grace and strength – That means there is GOOD NEWS FOR YOU B- Believe that Jesus is the only savior who can heal your heart. C- confess to God that you want to trust Jesus as your savior and Lord.
