1 Homework: #11 Generators: Produce an electric current when a coil of wire wrapped around an iron core is rotated near a magnet

2 Socrative Warm Up Question:
Finish the sentence… The magnetic field is STRONGEST near ______________________.

3 Simple Electric Motors
EQ: How does a simple electric motor work? Please type the EQ on your iPad. Tell me the EQ.

4 On Socrative submit some different things that use motors
APK On Socrative submit some different things that use motors

5 Simple Electric Motors
electrical energy -> mechanical energy 2 Parts: -1 electromagnet - 1 permanent magnet

6 electrical, mechanical
Simple electric motors transform __________ energy into ___________ energy. electrical, mechanical

7 Draw this in your notes.

8 How does it work? The Electromagnet produces a magnetic field.
The permanent magnet has a magnetic field. When these two magnetic fields meet, the wire begins to spin. This wire can be attached to a SHAFT or to a blade (like on a fan).

14 A motor can make… A fan spin A car engine work A hair dryer work
A vacuum cleaner work A dryer spin A washing machine spin

15 Remember!!! The electricity  makes the motor spin  which makes the appliance work
