2 JOURNAL 1 Write a brief piece that is inspired by at least one of the following lines from The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: “X-rays made her feel like a model, the doctors taking her pictures. She always posed.” “I fear I might be paranoid.”

3 JOURNAL 2 Write a story that is inspired by at least one of the following lines from The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: “A man touched me: his hand…my thigh. I touched him too: my fist…his jaw.” “One night your walls will disappear, and all the things you held so dear will float away inaudibly.”

4 JOURNAL 3 Write about 5 things you would do to entertain yourself if you didn’t interact with a soul for 7 days. (This includes over the internet, phone, texting, etc.)

5 JOURNAL 4 If you brought something with you today that inspires you, do a freewrite that is inspired by that item. If you didn’t bring anything, do a freewrite that is inspired by something you see in this room.

6 JOURNAL 5 Write a story or poem inspired by at least one of the following lines from The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: “Is it going to hurt? No, it’s going to be simple and painless.” “Sometimes, I lie awake wondering about the future, when I lie awake wondering about the past.”

7 JOURNAL 6 Part I: Come up with a feeling/situation/idea for which you wish there was a single word. Write the “definition” of this nonexistent word on your slip of paper. Examples: -That itching feeling you only get when you're told you need to stay absolutely still or simply cannot move. -When you come up with a really awesome comeback just after you've walked away from an argument or discussion. -When you lean against the sink counter in your bathroom and you get water on your shirt or pants.

8 JOURNAL 7 Choose one of the images on the following slide and write a brief story or poem that is inspired by that image. Use IMAGERY to appeal to multiple senses (not just sight) in your writing.

10 JOURNAL 8 Make a list of 5 words you really like.
Write a brief story or poem that includes as many of these words as possible. Try to include them all!

11 JOURNAL 9 As a class, we’ll brainstorm 5 words…

12 JOURNAL 10 Write a brief story or poem that is inspired by one of the following two lines: 1. “You’re gone. No mailing address. But I send you letters anyway.” 2. “I don’t get dressed anymore. I just don’t feel like it.”

13 JOURNAL 11 Write a piece that is inspired by one of the four pictures on the handout you received.

14 JOURNAL 12 Write a piece that is inspired by at least one of the following two lines from The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories. “Okay, I’ll admit, I have a few skeletons in my closet, but they weren’t skeletons when I put them there.” “The Sun is such a lonely star. Whenever he comes out to see his friends, they all disappear.”

15 JOURNAL 13 Write a piece that includes at least one of the conversations on the handout you received.

16 JOURNAL 14 Write a brief poem or story that explores one of the fears listed in the “Dictionary of Phobias.”

17 JOURNAL 15 Pick one of the hyperbole on the handout you received. Write a brief story or poem that explores what it would be like if that hyperbole were literally true.

18 JOURNAL 16 Do a 5 minute freewrite inspired by one of the two images on each of the following slides. You may decide to either describe the image, write from the voice of a character in the given situation, or just write what the picture makes you feel or think about. Some will inspire you more than others, and that’s fine… just see what you can come up with.

23 JOURNAL 17 Write a piece inspired by one of the following two lines from The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: “There are times when girls kiss just for fun.” “I know other worlds exist. I can see them in my peripheral vision.”

24 JOURNAL 18 Write a piece inspired by one of the following two quotes from The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: “When you become a ghost, feel free to haunt me.” “Thunder always let lightning come first.”
