Learning Goal Learning Objective Assessment Learning Activity What will students learn? If they have learned it, what will students know and be able to do? How will students demonstrate they know it or are able to do it? What will students do to learn it? example: Students will understand the transfer of information from DNA to proteins Students will understand how changes in the protein/DNA interface affect transcription example: Students will be able to predict changes in amino acid sequences caused by mutations Students will be able to predict how changes in the protein/DNA interface affect transcription. example: Students will predict the new amino acid sequence that results from a mutation in a given gene sequence Students will be able to predict and explain how molecular changes contribute to cholera toxin production example: Students will be given a sequence of normal DNA and resulting amino acid sequence and must identify the reading frame, template/coding strands to predict amino acid changes due to mutations Students will be given three strains, their promoter sequences and expression data. They will be asked to determine the connection between promoter sequence, sigma binding, and expression. 1
