TABLE ON CONTENTS MAP GEOGRAPHY

GEOGRAPHY The greatest geographic barrier for Haiti and Cuba in attempting to trade with Central America are the high costs to ship goods overseas to trade .

GEOGRAPHY The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea are extensions of the Atlantic Ocean.

GEOGRAPHY Many Central Americans have modified their physical environment in order to improve their lifestyles. An Example is peasants burning down the rainforest in order to clear land for farming.

GEOGRAPHY The natural rivers that are not navigable are a geographic factor that makes it difficult for the Panamanian government to control its own internal territory.

NATURAL DISASTER Tsunamis, landslides, and fire/floods all can happen as a result of an earthquake.

POPULATION DENSITY Geographic Factors for Patterns of Population are mild climate, proximity to water, natural resources, and fertile soil.

POPULATION DENSITY Jamaica has a high population density because of it is a small island compared to the size of its population. (2.6)

POPULATION DENSITY The population density in Panama is low since the landscape provides little land for the population to inhabit, the low population density is accounted for by the few people who likely are centered around trade and commercial areas with a few other villages.

GOVERNMENT de·moc·ra·cy
noun \di-ˈmä-krə-sē\ : a form of government in which people choose leaders by voting : a country ruled by democracy : an organization or situation in which everyone is treated equally and has equal rights Communism Communism is a political and economic system in which the major productive resources in a society—such as mines, factories, and farms—are owned by the public or the state, and wealth is divided among citizens equally or according to individual need.

GOVERNMENT Cuba turned to communism in the 1960s and has been accused of human rights abuse. This is why the United States used sanctions against Cuba since the years of the Cold War through today.

GOVERNMENT Rule by many: United States:: Rule by one: Cuba

GOVERNMENT Cuba, under Castro, would be considered an unlimited government.

GOVERNMENT Democracy is a limited government
In a limited government the government has limited power and there are human rights present. Communism & dictatorship is a unlimited government In a unlimited government the government has unlimited power and can do whatever they want to its citizens and there are not many human rights.

GOVERNMENT When a government moves from limited to unlimited, a loss of human rights is most likely to happen.

TRADE Trading between countries on the Atlantic Ocean and those on the Pacific Ocean increased in the 20th century because of the opening of the Panama Canal. find a clip about the Panama Canal

TRADE The greatest geographic barrier for Haiti and Cuba in attempting to trade with Central America are the high costs to ship goods overseas to trade .

ECONOMY Haiti is the most underdeveloped nation in the Caribbean because of its lack of resources, little foreign commerce or trade, and dependence on foreign nongovernmental organizations (NGO’s).

ECONOMY If Cuba changed to a free enterprise system, over time you could expect more economic freedom for individuals, voluntary exchange of goods and services by producers and consumers, and the ability to own private property.

PRODUCTION An educated work force is the missing factor of production that accounts for the lack of development of many Latin American countries today.

PRODUCTION Capital is the most lacking production factor in the economy of Haiti.
