1 EFFECT OF COWPEA GROWTH TYPES ON PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFITABILITY OF HYBRID MAIZE.
BY ABDULAI HARUNA CSIR/SARI- GHANA For Africa RISING West Africa Review and Legacy Workshop December 2016

2 Presentation Outline Introduction Objectives Materials and Methods
Result Conclusion

3 Introduction The existence of mixed cropping particularly, legumes and cereals such as cowpea and maize among small scale farmers of W. Africa savannah has long been identified. 52-60% of small scale farmers in N. Ghana are involved in intercropping using OPV. (MOFA, 2010)

4 Introd. cont. Introduction of hybrid maize which is associated with sole cropping is a challenge in terms of intercropping to small scale farmers. The main objective was to determine cowpea effects on productivity and profitability of hybrid maize as an intercrop.

5 Material and Methods Experimental sites:

11 Conclusion Small scale farmers can maximize yield when intercrop hybrid maize with either of the cowpea types. With commercial producers sole cropping is advisable
