2 Review In Spanish I, you learned how to form comparisons
“-er” adjectives in English Bigger, funner, smaller, prettier, taller, faster, slower, etc etc etc. Instead of saying “bigger,” you have to say more big than. This is also used when saying something is more than something else More interesting, more exciting, more boring, etc.

3 Mas (or menos) + adj + que
She is taller than me (I). Must figure out how to say tall Then plug it in! Ella es más alta que yo. We are shorter than them (they). Somos mas bajos que ellos. Now YOU DO: Mitt Romney vs Barack Obama Cameron Diaz vs Drew Barrymore Jason Aldean vs. Garth Brooks Lil Wayne vs. Usher

4 Menos + adj + que Used to tell when one thing is less something than another thing Juan is less boring than Jason. Geography is less hard than Algebra. **may not be used often in English, but is used very often in Spanish Yo soy menos inteligente que tú. 5 Las excepciones p 278 Look in the blue book on page 278 in the very right hand column. These adjectives are “- er” adjectives, but do NOT follow the rules. You must simply memorize them. mejor  better peor worse mayor older Menor younger

6 Bellringer Use what you have learned to write 10 comparisons using topics from school, sports, television shows, music, etc. REMEMBER, DO NOT BE REPETITIVE. (Yes, these will consist of terms from Spanish 1, and they WILL BE TURNED IN FOR A GRADE)

8 To say that something is the “most” or “least” something……
Por ejemplo…… Judy is the sweetest girl in the school. Well, literally we are going to say Judy is the girl most sweet in the school Juan is the smartest boy Juan is the boy most smart

9 Definite article + noun +más+ adjective
Juan is the shortest boy in the class. Juan is the boy most short. Juana and Lupe are the prettiest girls. This class is the most fun. You are the most interesting person.

10 Least…def article + noun + menos + adjective
We are the interesting The least popular computer is Dell The least expensive (caro) lamp The least comfortable (cómoda) bed

11 To say that something is the best/worst
FORMULA: def article + mejor/peor + noun Rojo es el mejor color para mi dormitorio Literally, you are saying something is the “better” Biología es la peor clase. Arte es la mejor clase. El verano es la mejor estación.

12 YOU DO Chocolate is the best cake. Strawberry is the worst ice cream.

17 How to form tú commands To form the command, you use the he/she conjugation of the verb and give it a little emphasis So: -ar verbs get an –a -er, -ir verbs get an –e ¡Limpia tu cuarto! ¡Escribe la fecha! ¡Lava los trastes! ¡Come tus verduras!

18 Irregulars As you know, there are ALWAYS irregulars. decir - di

20 New: present progressive
Used when talking about something that is happening RIGHT NOW What are you doing? I am washing the dog. We are cleaning the bathroom. Juan and Karla are dancing. She is studying. To form, you use: estar + present participle estar + verb(-ando, -iendo) Estoy hablando por teléfono. ¿Qué están haciendo uds.? Nosotros estás tomando apuntes y escuchando la maestra.

Eva is washing the dishes. Eva is wash(ing) the dishes

22 Now your turn The students are doing homework.
My friends and I are studying in the library. The boys are swimming in the pool. I am doing chores. Juan and his brother are mowing the yard. Maria and Jose are vacuuming the living room. My sister and I are cleaning the bathroom. Our parents are setting the table.

29 WORDS THAT END IN –DOR, -DORA
Every day you use your appliances and devices: calculadora, computadora, grapadora, copiadora, secadora, etc. What do all of these words end in? This is the same as adding –er or –or to the verb (In English) that tells what the appliance is for. toaster, calculator, fryer, dryer, washer,

36 PRESENT PROGRESSIVE What is it and when is it used? to tell what is happening RIGHT NOW What are you doing? I am washing the dishes. What is your father doing? He is watching football.

37 How to form ESTAR + PARTICIPLE
Conjugate estar for the person doing the action and use –ando, or –iendo to form participle Juan is mowing the yard. Jason and Angie are washing the dishes. Thomas is taking out the trash. We are studying. The family is eating. I am reading a book. The girl is sleeping.
