CHOOSING THE CORRECT CLASSES
Student work ethic Previous academic achievement Teacher recommendations Honors coursework will better prepare you for post secondary options or certain careers! What do you want your major to be in college? Look at the end picture. Consider the work load and extra-curricular activities. What are your interests? Where will you be the most challenged while maintaining a good GPA?

Choosing Honors Classes
More independent work More reading Tests are multiple choice, short answer, and essay Less spoon feeding More word problems in Math Apply abstract and critical thinking skills 20-25 minutes spent on homework 5 points added to 9 weeks grade

Choosing Pre-AP Classes
Prepare students to enroll in AP classes Additional reading and writing 25-30 minutes spent on homework Strong work ethic/above average ability Attempt college level courses in high school More challenging coursework at a faster pace 10 points added to 9 weeks grade Teacher recommendation and 85 average

24 credits total 4 years of English, math, science, and history 3 credits in fine arts, foreign language, and/or career tech ½ credit of health 1 year of career prep 1 year of PE Band, sports, show choir, JROTC

There will be 1 diploma option for the state of Alabama Alabama High School Diploma Pell City High School will have additional endorsements AHSD advanced endorsement AHSD advanced with honors endorsement

Meet the 24 graduation requirements 2 years of a consecutive foreign language Highest math is Algebra II w/trig

Meet the 24 graduation requirements Starting in 10th grade all core classes have to be at the honors level 4 of those classes have to be at the AP or Dual Enrollment level 2 years of a consecutive foreign language

AP and DUAL ENROLLMENT AP (Advanced Placement)
Dual Enrollment with Jeff State Community College Typically starts summer after 10th grade Must meet requirements (3.0 GPA) Earn college and high school credit at the same time

Honor Graduates In order to be recognized for Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Top 10, or Honor Graduates (93 and above overall high school GPA) students must be on track for the advanced with honors endorsement

FAQs Do I have to have a foreign language to graduate?
NO Do I have to take Art in high school? No Do I have to be on the advanced with honors track to take Dual Enrollment courses? Why does my GPA matter if I am not going to college? I will need a certain GPA to attend certain programs or for employment
