3 International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

6 This is What IB Says… The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a challenging two-year curriculum, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. Students learn more than a collection of facts. The Diploma Programme prepares students for university and encourages them to: �ask challenging questions �learn how to learn �develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture �develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.
 Schools teach the programme in English, French and/or Spanish.The Diploma Programme is one of three programmes offered by the IB. (from

8 Extended Essay 4000 word INDEPENDENT, unique research paper/project
A topic of your choice, but must fall into IB categories, and must be achievable and appropriate. Due in December of your Senior Year Don’t panic- we will explain this in depth before you begin.

9 150 CAS hours 50 Creativity 50 Action 50 Service
The overarching goal of CAS is to find activities or an activity in keeping with the spirit of the IB mission- service and learning.

10 The Nature of CAS Creativity
Arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking Action Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle Service An unpaid and voluntary exchange that has learning benefit for the student

11 Four Required Criteria
Real, purposeful activities, with significant outcomes. Personal challenge – tasks must extend the student and be achievable in scope. Thoughtful consideration, such as planning, reviewing progress, and reporting. Reflection on outcomes and personal learning. All proposed activities must meet these criteria.

12 Eight Learning Outcomes
Students must be able to demonstrate that they have: Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth. Undertaken new challenges. Planned and initiated new activities. Worked collaboratively with others. Shown perseverance/commitment in their activities. Engaged with issues of global importance. Considered the ethical implications of their actions. Developed new skills.

14 Read the CAS guide!!! Plan…What are you going to do? How will it all get done? Execute…Complete and reflect on each activity. Required documentation CAS Manager Finish…Submit all documentation; final meeting with CAS Coordinator.

15 It is not about being a ‘rocket scientist.’
Whew..all that AND graduate from High School, go to college, play in the band, act in the play, pass my classes and , oh yeah, sleep? This is doable It is not about being a ‘rocket scientist.’ It is not meant to kill you (though it may feel that way sometimes)
