1 Unit 3:VISUAL LANGUAGES:
THE BASICS

2 Any language has its own basics (the fundamental elements),
for example any written language has letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, etc., the same happens with the visual arts languages...

3 The basics are: DOT/point TEXTURE LINE LIGHT SHAPE COLOUR/COLOR

4 WITH ALL THESE BASICS WE CAN CREATE... ANY ...
IMAGE

5 We will start with the DOT
First of all we are going to study them one by one, and afterwards we will see the connections between them. We will start with the DOT Definition: The dot is the simplest element of a visual message, it is the minimum part an image can be divided into.

6 If you use a magnifying glass to look at any picture, photography a printed drawing or any kind of image you can think of, you will realize they are all made by little dots.

7 A x x C B x GEOMETRIC point/dot is just the intersection of two lines, ..X and we call them with capital letters GRAPHIC DOTS can have different shapes, sizes or colours and can help us to give us different sensations. Size and intensity are important to give different impressions and the can depend on which technique we use.

8 Here we are some examples of how sometimes the dot becomes an important character or an image

9 Dots also can help us to obtain many different effects in visual languages:
To obtain volume We can use dots to give objects shape, volume, and a sense of depth. Dots that are close together make darker areas, dots that are farther apart make lighter ones. Dispersion happens when the dots are far apart and accumulation is when they are very close together. To obtain a basic form If you order dot in a precise way you can obtain any shape...…because all shapes are made by dots.. To give expressiveness. It is the ability to show feelings or emotions...

10 A dot can be used to… To obtain volume: To obtain a basic form
Through dispersion To obtain volume: Through accumulation To obtain a basic form To give expressiveness.
