2 About Jeff Bezos Born January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, Mexico
Attended Princeton University Graduated: 1986 Founded Amazon.com in 1994 Net worth today: $76.2 Billion Jeff Bezos was born on January 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bezos had an early love of computers and studied computer science and electrical engineering at Princeton University. After graduation he worked on Wall Street, and in 1990 he became the youngest senior vice president at the investment firm D.E. Shaw. Four years later, he quit his job to open Amazon.com, a virtual bookstore that became one of the internet's biggest success stories. In 2013, Bezos purchased The Washington Post in a $250 million deal.

4 Amazon.com Founded in Seattle, Washington in 1994
“Cadabra Inc.” to “Amazon” Initially sold books Operates From: Seattle, Washington, United States Yearly sales jumped from $510,000 in 1995 to over $17 billion in 2011. 2016 Revenue – US $ Billion The company was founded in Seattle, Washington by Jeffrey P. Bezos in 1994 and came online in 1995 originally under the name Cadabra, Inc. They found that the name was often negatively mistaken as “Cadaver.” The name Amazon was adopted soon after because the Amazon River is the largest in the world, and the letter “A” would help the company to show up at the top of alphabetical lists. Their main selling component in their early years was books. They knew that retail shop could hold roughly 200,000 books at a time, whereas an online store could hold, theoretically, an unlimited amount of different books.

5 Blue Origin In 2000, Bezos founded Blue Origin, a private space flight company that hopes to bring space tourists into outer space. He plans to make these flights affordable by reusing the rocket that will carry tourists to space. Blue Origin did its first test flight in On Monday, the company successfully launched a rocket to the edge of outer space and landed it upright on a landing pad, which is a first for the growing space industry.

6 The 10,000-year clock This is more of a gesture than a business. Bezos is the major financial sponsor of a clock that's designed to tick once a year, and to have a century hand that moves every 100 years. It is being built inside a mountain in Texas, and can only be reached by climbing 2,000 feet high on foot. Bezos says it's meant to be an "icon for long-term thinking" needed to solve civilization's problems.

7 Cloud services Even if you never buy a book or anything else from Amazon, it's very likely you are using the company's cloud services without knowing it. Netflix uses Amazon's cloud to stream billions of hours of shows, even though it competes with Amazon's own streaming video service. Many companies have moved their data storage and software programs to Amazon's servers. It even counts the CIA as a customer. Amazon's cloud services division brings in more than $7 billion a year in revenue.

8 The Washington Post As print media was struggling, Bezos purchased the Washington Post for $250 million in August of He bought the iconic paper as an individual, not through Amazon, and pledged to support its critical role in Washington, D.C. and the nation. "Our duty to readers will continue to be the heart of the Post," Bezos said at the time.

9 Recognition Named Time magazine's Person of the Year in 1999
He was Awarded an honorary doctorate in Science and Technology from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008 In 2012, Bezos was named Businessperson of The Year by Fortune In September 2016, Bezos was awarded the Heinlein Prize for Advances in Space Commercialization which earned him $250,000. The prize money was donated to the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space by Bezos. 2016 Revenue – US $ Billion

10 Leadership Style Have a Small Group Or Team Customer Centric Approach
Think Long Term Have Perseverance And Resilience Always Experiment Become An Inventor Give Customers An Option Know Your Passion And Wait For The Right Time 1. Have a Small Group Or Team. For Bezos, it is better to have a team of five to seven people who are assertive and can come up with ideas of their own instead of a large group with many onlookers on the side. He came up with the two-pizza rule, that is, if food served on a meeting exceeds two boxes of pizza, this means there are too many people in the team. He prefers to stick with the two-pizza principle. 2. Customers Should Come First To The Point Of Obsessing Over Them. What’s great about how Bezo runs his empire is his focus on customers and not on competitors. Instead of wasting his time formulating plans to have leverage over other businesses in the industry, he diverts his attention on customer satisfaction. He sees to it that the needs and interest of his target market come first. Bezos even have a public where customers can send their complaints directly to him. This way, he gets feedback from them firsthand and in return sends the to the particular manager with an added symbol, a question mark. 3. Think Long Term. When Bezoz started Amazon in 1994, it was not very easy. This was because by the time, he already knew the importance of the internet and the role it will play in the lives of people. His business will solely run via the World Wide Web. However, that time, people were still clueless about the internet. This was a manifestation that Bezos was thinking way ahead of others. 4. Have Perseverance And Resilience. This style is actually being hard-headed yet flexible. For the Amazon founder, in order to succeed in business, it is important to be stubborn enough not to give up easily and be more flexible in looking for solutions when it comes to situations. He added that it is best to have the ability to combine this two and the key here is to when to use one over the other. 5. Always Experiment. To thrive in the business, great entrepreneurs never get tired trying new things and exploring to come up with better products and new offerings. Amazon started as an online book retailer but later begun offering other products. Now, Bezos is talking about drone-driven package deliveries. 6. Become An Inventor. While Apple has few items to offer, Amazon is exactly the opposite. This is because Bezos believe that entrepreneurs need to invent things. He encourages his team to invent and at the same time be resourceful. 7. Give Customers An Option. Another strategy used by Amazon is letting competitors advertise their products side by side with Amazon. A typical Amazon page includes the product and pricing as well as other sellers that offer the same merchandise. Bezos also encourage feedback even if it is negative. He believes that customers should know the real deal and have the choice to buy what they think is a better deal. This thinking of Bezos puts customers interests over Amazon short-term profits. 8. Know Your Passion And Wait For The Right Time. This is one advice Bezos love to give aspiring entrepreneurs. For him, a business idea should stem from a person’s passion and not on the trend. He believes that if an entrepreneur is passionate about what he does, he can build better products. When the product is there, one just have to wait for the proper time he can position it in the market. Aside from coming out with a product of one’s passion, Bezos also added that it should be combined with focusing on the customers.
