Strategic Plan April 19, 2017

3 The work of Many rotarians
I am pleased to present the Strategic Plan for the Rotary Club of Petoskey. This is a dynamic document, designed to provide direction and emphasis for your governing Boards for the next 3-5 years. This is a guide, not a mandate. Future boards are encouraged to adjust this document to fit their experiences and needs.

4 The pathway to success – a new hope
May 2016: Visioning Exercise Facilitated by Chris Etienne, Diane Litzenburger, and Jane Millar Over 20 club members attended this session Used survey results from both an on-line survey and from a group activity during one of our Club meetings (Remember the Red/Yellow/Green cards?) Focus was on what the club was doing well, not doing well, and needed to improve in 8 core areas: Membership Calendar Sales Alternative memberships Diamonds and Denim Meeting mechanics Fundraising Youth Service The Rotary Foundation

7 The pathway to success – The board strikes back (kinda sorta in a supportive way)
July 2016 – December 2016: Board Meeting Work Sessions Monthly, the Board began work on developing a Strategic Plan. The baseline from this plan used the 36 potential action items identified in the Visioning Session. Board members were responsible for developing their Service Area’s portion of the Strategic Plan

Each Board member assembled a team of 2-5 Rotarians and over a six-month period: Did a SWOT Analysis of their Service Area. Using the results of the SWOT analysis, created a Mission Statement of where they wanted to be in 3-5 years. Developed 3 Strategic Priorities that advanced the Mission. Developed goals that advanced their Strategic Priorities. This required a substantial investment of time for many Rotarians. Thank You!

10 The pathway to success – The return of the jedi rotarians
January 2017: Strategic Planning Work Session Board members were invited to bring their teams to the Bay Harbor Conference Center for a marathon Strategic Planning Work Session. 17 club members attended this session. Resulted in final SWOT analysis, Mission Statements, and 3 Strategic Priorities for each Service Area. Each Board member presented their work results, with rationale, to the group as a whole. Board was then charged to reflect on this information, and begin prioritizing what they felt should be the overall Club Mission Statement and top 3 Strategic Priorities.

19 Foundation Mission: Build and maintain a robust Foundation program that focuses on increased Club member participation, in support of The Rotary Foundation’s core mission. Strategic Priorities: Achieve “Every Member Every Year” for giving $100 per member annually. Currently 54 members give $100 or more. Increase number of sustaining members giving $1,000 annually Currently 2 members give $1000 annually

20 Club service Mission: Build and maintain our Club at 100 to 110 members through a combination of increased retention, recruiting, and member participation. Strategic Priorities: Maintain Club membership between 100 and 110 members. Retain 94% or better of our existing membership. Increase member participation in meetings and non- meetings.

21 Community service Mission: Build and maintain a robust Community Service program that focuses on increased Club exposure, and demonstrates our Club’s support of our local community. Strategic Priorities: Support Club athletic/social events by forming a “healthy activity committee”. Increase support of scholarships for area students. Increase club support of Toys-4-Tots and Salvation Army bell ringing.

22 Vocational service Mission: A Rotary Club that encourages and fosters: high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. Strategic Priorities: Schedule programs where members talk about their business or profession. Expand membership in Teacher of the Year and Career Day committees, with an emphasis on younger members with fresh ideas. Strengthen the emphasis on vocation and classification in new member recruitment, and add members from emerging vocations, or vocations that are underrepresented in our Club.

23 International service
Mission: Build and maintain a robust International Service program that focuses on others abroad, while fostering positive Rotary relationships with other Rotary members and clubs. Strategic Priorities: Have one program each quarter that focuses on international service. Ensure Club member participation at International conventions to promote and enhance Club understanding of our Club’s part of the global Rotary International team.

24 Youth service Mission: Build and maintain a robust youth services program that focuses on increased educational opportunities for our local students, both at home and abroad, for all levels of student achievers. Strategic Priorities: Increase scholarships given and amount of money awarded. Bring back Youth Exchange as a viable program within our Club. Make STRIVE a permanent Club feature.

25 Charitable Income Mission: Build and maintain a robust fund-raising program that efficiently creates community awareness of Rotary, while raising sufficient funds to adequately support our Club projects and mission. Strategic Priorities: Under the leadership of a trained club member, the Club fully participates in the grant matching opportunities available through the District and RI. Increase our calendar revenue through a combination of Club and Wholesale Calendar sales. Maintain or enhance our Major Fundraiser event revenue stream.

Maintain Club membership between 100 and 110 members, while maintaining a 94% or higher retention rate of existing members. Action Items Baseline: 100 members at Club loses 5-7 members annually = 94% retention rate – Recruit 6-8 new members each year : Exit interview process : Added mentor time commitment and responsibility : Enhance our Fellowship opportunities : Promote new members and sponsors attend >=4 non-meeting events

Increase member participation in meetings and non-meetings. Action Items Baseline: 10% of members are at less than 50% attendance as of : Board reviews attendance and reaches out, when appropriate. : Support Club athletic/social events with start of “healthy activity committee. : Review what events count towards attendance. : Review succession plan for Board members and key positions.

Increase scholarships given and amount of money awarded. Action Items Baseline: 3 NCMC nursing scholarships and 5 high school scholarships as of : Use more of budget, or find added resources, for scholarship awards. : Make scholarship presentations a bigger deal for awardees & Club. : Have a larger committee for scholarship advertising and review. : Partner with local/regional entities, and other Rotary Clubs, for funding.
