4 Research Changing Your Habits: Steps to a Better Health Changing Your Clients’ Eating Behaviors “Write down your progress. This can be one of your most important tools for staying on a healthy path. Recording progress serves as a good reminder, helps to keep you focused”(Changing Your Habits: Steps to a Better Health, Page 5). “Teach clients the value of using smaller plates ad serving utensils at home. For drinks, suggest they use tall, narrow glasses. Research indicates that decreasing plate and glass sizes may make people believe they are getting a larger portion simply because their dish or glass is full”(Changing Your Clients' Eating Behavior, Page 1).

5 Research Changing Behavior: Using Motivational Interviewing Techniques Individual and Community Models for Dietary Behavior Change “Belief in Ones ability to make a change and stick to it is fundamental to that change. You may want to use this as an outcome of a motivational interview intervention, as increased self-efficacy is predictive of improved mental health”(Changing Behavior: Using Motivational Interviewing Techniques, Page 45). “This model is consistent with the overall sequencing of interventions, in which initial activities emphasize awareness and motivation, followed by opportunities for action, and later promoting maintenance of change”(Individual and Community Models for Dietary Behavior Change, Page 82).
