3 Supervisor Comments Over the years I have become less satisfied with middle management. I feel senior employees are treated with a lack of respect by management. While there has been some extreme nepotism in the past, why do incoming employees also have to suffer as a result of another group’s misguidance in order to make everything “fair?” The do as I say not what I do attitude! Department Head that talks Down to Workers. Needs to GO! All the training does not Click. It is time to let the employees be involved in the decisions that concern them, that they can be. Let the staff do their jobs without the micro management that has been happening. Don’t forget the knowledge of the staff!

4 Supervisor Comments Continued…
Start to use a level of fairness in promotional, probation, and the evaluation process. Currently friends or family are given positions and rubber stamped through probation….It shows with the level of incompetence in the tradesmen level….Stall tactics are also employed to give certain employees more time to meet in title requirements….Bullying tactics are a staple of the management level to make subordinates conform to unfair decisions. I'm jumping from one task to the next just trying to keep up. Its hard to take pride in your work that way. Supervisor’s are too worried about themselves and their own agenda to care about their employees. If its good for them, its good for everyone otherwise forget it! I think SUNY Oswego needs to look at the Union a little closer. I feel that the Union protects the employee who abuses the system rather than rewarding/acknowledging the employee who comes into work each and every day.

5 Supervisor Comments Continued…
Our supervisor would operate better as a lab rat than a supervisor. He’s a micro manager. Pretends to be your best friend, comes in and leaves at a moments notice but continually complains when you request time off. There are many engaged, productive and dedicated employees at this institution. Weak and/or unqualified leadership, paranoia of new ideas and self interest/personal job security prevents administrative personnel from utilizing staff effectively. This is a top-down, pervasive attitude that hinders even well meaning professionals from accomplishing all that they could for this college due to a leadership methodology based on fear and retribution instead of hard work, dedication and honesty.

6 Supervisor Comments Continued…
Sit down and go thru with supervisors all the different ways of using credit cards, term contracts, money, etc.… Using the different forms and how to fill them out. Management MUST listen to employees that perform their jobs, they are the ones that can better the campus now and in the future. Management changes and procedures are not always best suited for the campus. Give the employees more say, and stop the micro managing process. Provide clear expectation of work performance. Listen to concerns without judgement and provide timely follow-up.

7 Positive Comments I feel I am treated very well at SUNY Oswego. I do the best I can in my position and I always look to better myself. I plan on gaining as much knowledge as I can and advance though the ranks. I think the President’s long range planning has sparked interest in people to come work here. Seeing development. To me SUNY Oswego gives people a chance to earn a living and provide insurance/benefits/NYS retirement to an employee. The hours are good. It’s a safe environment. There are many opportunities for advancement if one applies his or herself. Like all State facilities Oswego has good benefits and a retirement plan. There is also the ability to move up within a department. There is room to advance and learn a trade of your choosing. There are opportunities in a variety of trades. I've been a firm believer in an all day orientation for every new employee that introduces most or all key leaders and demonstrates how prestigious SUNY Oswego and the power of SUNY system is. Once new employees are thrown to the wolves, most do not return the same.
