2 Claim or Thesis Statement
Maximum Ride exemplifies the character archetypes the hero and the mother figure through her efforts to rescue Angel and protect the flock from outside forces. In both books, Uglies and Pretties, readers are introduced to a setting that has a great effect on the characters by having them divided into separate towns that show the different classes of beauty. In the book uglies, there are multiple themes that the author introduces to the readers. The leading theme is ……… Scott Westerfeld shows this through……..

3 Body Paragraphs Topic Sentence Reasons or Evidence Explanation/ End
Early in the book, Maximum Ride, also known as Max, is put in a position to rescue one of the flock’s youngest members, Angel. Reasons or Evidence The flock is attacked by henchmen sent from The School to kidnap Angel. A massive fight takes place. Unfortunately, they were not strong enough to keep them back. Several of the children are also injured in the scuffle. When they realize that Angel has been taken away so violently, this leaves the other children shaken and confused. Max takes it upon herself to fly to The School and rescue Angel. While some of the children stay behind to guard their home, others travel with Max to help. This battle takes place on pages Explanation/ End In this portion of the text, Max demonstrates that she is the hero archetype by trying to defend all of the children against the The School’s minions. While some of the children are close to Max’s age, she chooses to take on this responsibility of being a leader, or hero, without the help of others. Also, part of being the hero is to travel on a quest. In this case, Max will have to leave the safety of their home and make a long journey to save her. In essence, Max feels she must be the one to rescue Angel.

4 Concluding Paragraph Restate your main points of your essay. These are usually your topic sentences for each of the body paragraphs. The hero archetype embodies many different attributes, like saving the smaller and weak from the wicked and using supernatural, or unusual powers to defeat the enemy. This could not have been more obvious than when Max went on the journey to rescue Angel and must use her powers to defeat one of The School’s toughest henchmen. While Max seems strong and tough, she has a mothering side to as shown in the book when she gathers food for breakfast, makes the younger children take baths, and comforts them. Restate your claim/thesis in a different way. James Patterson has developed Max to be a multidimensional character. In real life, people have different attributes. He made Max seem real to the readers by giving her two very different qualities: the tough hero and the tender mother. A final statement about why this claim/thesis is important. By developing Max into a more well-rounded character, this helps the reader to connect with the character and story more closely.
