2 What does writing persuasively try to achieve?
Think of a time when you tried to persuade someone (by speaking or writing). Persuade a parent to drop you off somewhere Persuade the school to promote you to the Leadership team How did you persuade? What do you need to persuade? Conviction (that your perspective is right) Good reasons

3 Planning your Writing A well planned and structured piece will lead the reader to agree with your conclusion. You will need to research your key arguments/points. Decide on your task. Think about audience, purpose and context. Do the research. Plan the cohesion of your writing. Plan what rhetorical devices you could include. Produce a first draft. Read your speech aloud. Take advice from any nearby listeners. Redraft (using feedback and self-evaluation).

4 Rhetorical Devices What does rhetoric mean?
The art of persuasion or the means by which language is manipulated in order to persuade an audience. Using the sheet, match the features to an example. 5 Phonological Devices The sound of particular words or phrases can have as much impact on an audience as the meaning of words themselves. 7 Editorials Editorials are opinion pieces written by one of the senior writers of a publication; they are designed to outline the perspective of the newspaper or magazine on key current news issues. Tone will be more impersonal than a letter. Annotate text 18D (Angelina Jolie) to create a style model.
