1 Problem Statement and Research Question
By: Assistant. Prof. Aslamzai

2 Overview What is problem statement? How to define problem statement?
What is a research question? Why do I need one? How to I create research question?

3 Conceptualizing your research study
Where to start??? Conceptualizing your research study Issue Sample Balancing of your issue idea and the methods and if any sample you have

4 Conceptualization Conceptualization is a process of defining the agreed meaning of the terms used in a study. Indicators are identified to mark the presence or absence of a concept. Some concepts have more than one aspect or facet, called dimensions.

5 Basic Tools to Conceptualize the Research study
Problem statements: Identify the basic issue or problem to be addressed Research question: Divide problem statement into manageable topics to be researched Hypotheses: Statements which can be tested empirically

6 Writing problem statements
TPOTS (The purpose of the this study is ………..) Verb (what you are going to do) Identify , describe Compare, evaluate Determine the case of …. Key words/ phrases Who is going to be researched What is going to be researched

7 Sample problem statements
The purpose of this study is to describe and compare the attitude and performance of the male and female graduate students regarding the research methodology course of KU. Verbs(action): Describe Compare Key words/phrases: Attitude, performance, male and female students and required research course

8 Writing Research Question
Divide problem statements by topic or issues Divide problem statements by groups or people

9 Sample example of Research question
The purpose of this study is to describe and compare the attitude and performance of the male and female graduate students regarding the research methodology course of KU What are the attitude of graduate students recording required the RM Course? What is the performance of graduate students in RM course? What are the attitude of male graduate students recording required the RM Course? What are the attitude of female graduate students recording required the RM Course? Two more Q must added by the student in the class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 Problem description and research questions:
“Main challenges in the cloud technology. There are several issues related to the infrastructure as a service, platform as a service and software as a service that have made the cloud environment vulnerable. However, they are not new security concerns and we are facing with these issues in the physical environments. As I mentioned earlier, the key underlying cloud technology is virtualization.”

11 Problem description and research questions:
“Virtualization technology has made cloud security a complex issue and lots of new vulnerabilities and threats are appearing. Virtualization allows multiple operating systems co-reside on the same physical machine without interfering each other and benefits from dynamic resource allocation on the same hardware. Virtualization layer plays a significant role in the operation of virtual machines. Since multiple virtual machines run on the same server, malicious party has a chance to attack the virtualization layer, exploit security holes and gain access to all virtual machines. In addition, one compromised virtual machine can cause a security problem for the other virtual machines on a physical server. If a hacker spends some time for attacking one of the virtual machines, that could lead to compromise other virtual machines and eventually accessing the host.” Research questions:

12 Research questions What are the security issues of virtualization in the cloud computing environments? How can mitigate the security issues of virtualization technology in the cloud computing environments?

13 Research questions Research question is an actual question that you ask your self about a specific topic to talk a bout it
