2 Lost Generation of Writers
A group or American artist views and thoughts greatly effected by World War I Wrote more realistic writeing, showed cruelty and not always happy ending Pushed the corruption to the surface Dissected themselves from American culture This group of people changed the veiw of life

3 Ernest Hemingway Hemingway was born in 1899 and die 1961.
Published many novels, several journalistic narratives and memoirs. Joined world war one and served as a red cross ambulance driver. The book “farewell to arms” inspired by a nurse he fell in love with Agnes Korowsky.

4 Hemingway cont. He began a job as a reporter for Toronto Star
1921 moved to Paris with his first wife Literary circle with Gertrude stein and F Scott Fitzgerald

5 F Scott Fitzgerald Born on September 24th 1896
Named after author of star spangled banner The first novel he wrote was a major success and helped him marry the woman he loved Tender is the Night was very unsuccessful Moved to Hollywood and became a scriptwriter

6 Fitzgerald cont. The author of “The Great Gatsby”
Wrote “This Side of Paradise” His wife Zelda was also a writer

7 Gertrude Stein Born on February 3rd, 1874
Died July 27th, 1946 (age 72) Strayed from traditional writing styles Moved to France in 1903 Would hold Saturday American literary gatherings Mentored and guided many of the authors such as Hemingway, Fitzgerald.

8 Gertrude Stein cont. In 1933 published “Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas” Stared the term “Lost Generation”

9 T. S. Eliot Born Thomas Stearms Eliot on September 16th 1888
Died jauary 4th 1965 ( age 76) Became british in 1927 Wrote “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”, “The Waste Land”, and “Four Quarters” Nobel Prize for Literature 1948
