2 Defining key terms Quantification Forecasting Supply Planning
Process of estimating the quantities and costs of the products required for a specific health program (or service), and determining when the products should be delivered to ensure an uninterrupted supply for the program Forecasting Supply Planning National-level quantification for family planning products is ideally led by a team of experts and executed through a consensus-based process involving key stakeholders with knowledge of relevant data sources and program plans. Increasing Access to Next Generation Injectables - January 30 - February 2, Dakar, Senegal

3 A clear and realistic introduction plan is a prerequisite for quantification
Future consumption is highly dependent on the parameters defined in introduction plans: Geographic area(s) covered Program expansion plans and timelines Provider training needs and timing Whether DMPA-SC is provided alongside other injectables (DMPA-IM) or is the only injectable offered Increasing Access to Next Generation Injectables - January 30 - February 2, Dakar, Senegal

4 Integrate DMPA-SC into quantification for other family planning products
Evidence shows DMPA-SC will have an impact on the consumption of DMPA-IM and potentially other methods (such as pills and condoms) as women switch. Even if a program has decided to move towards replacement of DMPA-IM with DMPA-SC, the transition would still be a gradual shift in consumption over time. No matter the type of data used to develop the forecast, the quantification team should consistently prepare a forecast for 3 month injectable contraceptives and assign a proportion of consumption to DMPA-IM and DMPA-SC. 5 Monitor and update the consumption forecast and supply plan routinely
With many uncertainties around introduction, there is a high risk of over/understock Adjust forecast and supply plan based on implementation of the introduction plan, any plan changes, new data on actual consumption and shipments, etc. Photo credit: Fie Traore Photo credit: Fie Traore Increasing Access to Next Generation Injectables - January 30 - February 2, Dakar, Senegal

6 Advocates can support quantification and improved data for decision-making
Support decision-makers and partners to follow these key recommendations Advocate for better data collection and monitoring systems to allow updates/revisions to quantification Use the results of the quantification to advocate for additional funding for procurement Contact for DMPA-SC quantification guidance document for information about the Coordinated Supply Planning (CSP) group, which is coordinated by JSI and works at the global level with donors, partners, countries, and Pfizer to monitor and prioritize DMPA-SC orders.
