2 The Iowa Informatics Initiative
UI3 is a campus-wide initiative designed to foster new collaborations, to cultivate new research opportunities across campus from health care to digital arts and humanities, and to educate and train the next generation workforce with the skills to transform information into knowledge and actions. The Iowa Informatics Initiative

3 How are we framing informatics?
Big Tent -- join the computational disciplines with the humanities, arts, and the natural, biological, health, and social sciences to help identify and resolve real-world issues and problems.

7 Annual Informatics Showcase
UI3 - Today New informatics cluster hires – 23 new faculty positions (14 filled) in 4 colleges (CLAS; TCoB; CoE; CoPH) and 10 departments. New space on 5th floor of CoPH (on-line late spring 2016; ~$4.6M). Director (Greg Carmichael), Assoc. Directors of Education (Juan Pablo Hourcade) and Services (Ben Rogers). 4 technical staff (1 hired; 2 underway) and 1 program coordinator positions established. Steering committee (internal) for the cluster hires established. Campus wide (faculty, staff and student – 180 to date) participation through affiliate membership with UI3. New investments in informatics infrastructure (HPC, data storage, secure desktop and data analytics engine). Stimulating/coordinating curriculum – Over 500 degrees are being awarded each year across five colleges. New programs continue to increase, as illustrated by the numerous new certificate and degree programs being established. Transitioned administration of IGPI to UI3 in July 2015, first formal program review. Expanding informatics related training (13 workshops engaging > 120 faculty, staff, students last AY), consultation & campus engagement. Annual Informatics Showcase
