The Evaluation Project This poster provides an overview of a three year project to evaluate the Genio Dementia Programme 2013 which is in progress within the School of Nursing and Midwifery TCD and the Department of Economics NUI Galway. The Genio Dementia Programme provides an exciting opportunity to examine the merits of different approaches to integrated care for people with dementia within a community supports model that emphasises individualised supports and person-centred care. It is very important that the various interventions that have been used as part of the programme have an impact on the dementia policy process through a careful interpretation and economic analysis of the outcomes within the various sites. One of the most important aspects of the research is how the Genio Dementia Programme can have an impact on policy development in Ireland and internationally. To this end the project team have been commissioned to evaluate the programme within the following five sites: Stream 1: Integrated care pathways Development of an Integrated Care Pathway for People with Dementia - DemPath St James’s Hospital Integrated Care Across Settings Cork–IDEAS Mercy University Hospital and Cork Community Partnership to improve dementia care Connolly Hospital Integrated Care Pathway for People with Dementia Stream 2: Individualised supports within the community Memory Matters Community Component, Carlow/Kilkenny Service Providers Forum Community Outreach Dementia Project Leitrim (CODPL) The evaluation is underpinned by the RE-AIM evaluation framework (Kessler 2013) which is designed to enhance the quality, speed, and service improvement impact of the project initiatives. To this end, the evaluation involves assessment of each of the projects in terms of: Reach - the penetration and factors influencing the numbers and nature of Persons with Dementia/carers supported by the two initiatives, Efficacy or effectiveness - the impact on individuals/agencies to include factors such as quality of life, service utilisation patterns and resource consumption associated with dementia services, Adoption –the participation rates/representativeness and factors influencing engagement of setting, agencies, organisations, and personnel involved in dementia care, Implementation – the level of, consistency and factors influencing access to, delivery, utilisation and cost effectiveness of the pilot dementia ICPs (x3) and community support projects (x2), Maintenance – potential for influencing the National Dementia strategy and for sustainability of the interventions over time to include effect on persons with dementia and dementia services, variance, and measurement of primary and secondary outcomes. To achieve the project aims an exploratory mixed methods pre-post approach involving both quantitative and qualitative data analysis is being used to facilitate comprehensive evaluation. Four phases – overview and progress to date Phase 1 Research team & stakeholder convening project planning Completed Phase 2 Baseline mapping of services & patient journey Phase 3 Participatory approach to develop methodology Phase 4 Evaluation of project roll-out For further information in relation to the GENIO Dementia Programme 2013, please see the following website: For further information in relation to this evaluation project, please contact Dr Anne-Marie Brady at:
