1 NASA InSight Mission’s “Vital Signs of the Planet” A Professional Development Program for Science Educators Can students make inferences regarding tectonics on Mars from what is known about the Earth? On March 28, 2014, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake captured by six Southern California partner schools Quake Catcher Seismograms. Dr. Robert DeGroot, Southern Cal Earthquake Center: "This is event-based science at its best!" Images: Quake Catcher Network seismometers at six partner schools captured the March 28, 2014, magnitude 5.1 earthquake, and aftershocks. Middle School students model deformation of the earth and demonstrate how scientists collect and analyze GPS data collected along the San Andreas Fault. June 2, 2014
