Germanic peoples Also called Teutonic Originated in Northern Europe (around Scandinavia an Netherlands) Began to spread through Europe between AD Under pressure from invading Asian tribes and increasing population, began spreading as far south as the Mediterranean and Northern Africa Led to many fixed settlements for protection Played large role in transforming Roman Europe into Medieval Europe Contributed to fall of Roman Empire by infiltrating army, rising through the ranks, and eventually ruling
