To look at how these problems have been overcome.

Often had no running water.
Outside shared toilet.
No electricity.
Coal fires caused smoke damage.
Rats infestations.
Many people lived in the same house, with one bedroom.

At first the houses seemed like luxury accommodation.
Far more space,
running water,
indoor toilets.

However the houses were poorly built to withstand the Scottish weather.
The roofs were flat and that meant flooding and then damp.
The height of the buildings were a problem for old people and families with young children.
The community spirit was lost when many new people moved in.

The building went into decay as no one took care of them.
Crime rates grew and this gave the area a bad reputation.
The situation got so bad that the “new” flats were again knocked down and redeveloped.
