Basic Sentence Structure: Present and Past Tense
Present tense: I WORK I. You can also use the tense indicator NOW or TODAY at the beginning of the sentence to set up present tense. NOW I WORK I. TODAY I VISIT GRANDMOTHER. Basic Sentence Structure (Present, Past, Future, and Using FINISH): The time sign can be at the beginning or end of the sentence, but usually comes first and eyebrows are up on the time sign. FINISH appears either before or after the verb. It is also possible to use FINISH to show that an action has been completed. When using the sign FINISH mouth the word fish. Step 1. Please add glossing marks and underline any signs you do not know in numbers 1-10. Step 2. What signs do we need to review? Step 3. Now lets sign the sentences together. Step 4. Now lets sign them with partners. Move around the room. Sign a sentence to a person… the person responds with the number that corresponds to that sentence. Let’s look at your worksheets…

Basic Sentence Structure: Using FINISH
It is also possible to use FINISH to show that an action has been completed. FINISH appears before or after the verb. Mouth the word FISH when signing FINISH. There are 52 signs in this chapter. Create 10 sentences on your own that incorporate at least 20 of the signs from this chapter and use grammar structures from this chapter. Gloss the sentence first underlining the vocabulary used from this chapter, on the next line write out the grammar structure used. Add all glossing marks and double space. For example: ALL-DAY WALK shift VISIT WASHINGTON D. C. FINISH I TIRED. (Present tense. FINISH can be used to show that an action has been completed.) You will be signing and translating these ten sentences in class. Be sure to use only vocabulary we know—do not use to look up new signs. Rely on your master vocabulary list only!
