3 Why do we need to learn about Test-Taker Tim?
Do your math teachers teach you ways to show your work when you calculate math problems? YES! Why do they do this? So that you will have steps to help you solve a problem!! Why should reading be any different? Test-Taker Tim will give you strategies to use as you take any type of reading evaluation!!

4 C = Code Your Questions C - (make the ears)
This is when you underline the important words in your question stem. What is this question really asking you?? YOU DO NOT UNDERLINE EVERY WORD!

5 Example 1 What is this story mostly about?
To code this question you would underline mostly. “Mainly” or “Mostly” means that I have to think about the main idea of the story, the most important part. So, this is a MAIN IDEA question and I need to answer who/what is the story about and what’s the point of the story?

6 What would you code in this question?
Example 2 The image below paragraph 1 is included in the selection most likely to… You Try It… What would you code in this question?

7 Did you say image and paragraph 1?
The image below paragraph 1 is included in the selection most likely to… So, when I’m answering this question I need to be thinking to my self, “What does the image have to do with the story?”

8 S = Show Your Work S – (draw the hair, it’s a sideways “S”) Show your work! Prove your answer by going back to the story and providing text evidence that backs up your answer.

9 N = Narrow down your answer choices
N- (draw an N for the nose) Now that you have analyzed the text you can narrow down your answer choices. Which answers do you know for sure that you can get rid of?

10 Eyes – Bubble in your answers
You’ve done all the hard work…don’t make a mistake now! Carefully transfer your answer to your answer document and bubble in the circle completely.

11 Mouth – Double Check your work!
CONGRATULATIONS! You are on the final step, and Test-Taker Tim is so proud of you! Now that you have coded your questions, shown your work, narrowed down your answer choices, and transferred your answers to the answer document, check back one last time to make sure you have completed all the questions and that you are confident in your answers!
