3 1 Background

4 Tianjin Port e-Navigation Testbed
Tianjin port is the largest comprehensive port in North China and an important port for foreign trade, which is also the world's highest level of artificial deep-water port. After years of evolution, the main channel of Tianjin port has become a compound channel with a total width of 780 meters and total length of 15,600 meters, that is, the middle deepwater channel is two-way navigation waterway for large-size ships sailing. On both sides of the deepwater channel are single navigation ways for small-size ships with capacity of 10,000 tons.

6 2 User Need

7 Tianjin Port e-Navigation Testbed
Due to the complex hydrological and meteorological condition, the tidal current of Tianjin Port compound channel is irregular and the flow is difficult to predict. All the users, including ships pass in and out Tianjin Port, VTS personal of Tianjin Port, etc. expect to obtain visibility, tidal current, wind and other real-time environment information of Tianjin Port compound channel timely. In order to match the needs of above-mentioned users and according to e-Navigation relevant concept, this project will establish e-Navigation test platform for Tianjin Port compound channel to provide users the channel environment information service.

8 3 Construction Content

9 Tianjin Port e-Navigation Testbed
1) Install two multi-function buoys on the key position of Tianjin Port compound channel, the buoys are equipped with visibility meter, flow meter and other relevant environment to acquire real-time environment information of compound channel; those information acquired will be transferred to the shore based system by mobile phone network communication.
