18 #28 Differences African v. Atlantic Slave Trade
The slave trade in Africa was not necessarily permanent. It was the affect of war, capture and trying to assimilate people into society, where (with) the Atlantic slave trade the slaves lost all of their rights. (3 points) – some used chattel Slave trade in Africa was worse because they were not educated or ever freed. The slaves were also caught in a different way. (0 points)

19 #29 What happened to Africans from capture to departure on boat?
They were marched for miles back to the shore and if they couldn’t make it to the factories, they were killed off for slowing the group down. They were all held together in the factories until the next ship came. (3 points) They would rebel as much as possible before being put on the ship. (1 point)

20 #30 What specifically did the middle passage involve?
The middle passage involved slaves being held below the deck with little to no space to move. They were fed two times a day. As a result of the crew not giving them enough food they often fought over it. The middle passage involved suicides and many deaths because of the (lack of) sanitation. They laid in their waste and ate with their hands. (3 points)

The middle passage involved the slave crew bringing slaves to America – the ones that were captured. (1 point)

22 #31 What happened to Africans after they had crossed the Atlantic?
As soon as they got there they had to be seasoned which means they basically go through training to be a good slave. They go through that which can take up to a year or maybe two years. Then they are sold to a slave owner and work for them. (3 points) They were prepared to be sold. (1 point)

23 #32. Determine that a New African was successfully seasoned
Answer needed to have at least three of the key elements below to get three pts.: Survived the hardships 2. Adapted to new foods of W.I. 3. Learned language enough to take commands (usually Creole) 4. No longer suicidal (accepted that this was their new life, not returning to Africa

24 #33. Why did the Atlantic slave trade end?
Answer needed to have at two key elements to get three points: 1. Abolitionists (from England) were claiming it was immoral to treat humans this way 2. Change in focus from agriculture and need for hard labor to industrialism and the rise of manufacturing
