3. History of Ibuprofen
It was made from Propionic Acid during the 1960’s by the research of the Boots Group. It was created to be a safer alternative to aspirin. It was first discovered by Stewart Adams. He initially tested this new found drug as a treatment for his hangover. Dr. Adams was awarded an award from the “Most excellent Order of the British Empire” in Boots received the Queen’s Award for Technical Achievement for developing the drug in 1987.

4. How is it synthesized?
Boots was the first to synthesize Ibuprofen. The Hoechst process is a newer process which requires fewer steps. Boots’ synthesis was six steps whereas Hoechst uses only three. They both use Friedel-Crafts and isobutyl benzene. Here are both:

6. Uses of Ibuprofen in society
Ibuprofen is used for the relief of symptoms of arthritis, fever, menstrual pains and a medication in which does not give you a loss in consciousness. It is also used to prevent blood clots but not as effective as aspirin.

7. Cautions of Ibuprofen You should not take Ibuprofen if you:
-Are sensitive to aspirin
-Have severe heart failure
-A history of heart attack
-Asthma
-Liver or kidney disease
-Stomach ulcers or bleeding
Side effects of ibuprofen:
-Diarrhea
-Nausea
-Vomiting
-Abdominal Pain
-Indigestion
-Pain in stomach
It can cause some women to have reduced fertility after long-term use of ibuprofen. This case is VERY rare.
