Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship : Japanese Studies Students (Scholarship for students studying Japanology) Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship : Research Students (Scholarship for studying and researching in Japan)

7 MEXT: Japanese Studies Students
MEXT offers scholarships to foreign students to study for a period of one year at designated Japanese universities in order to deepen their understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture.

8 MEXT: Research Students
MEXT offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in graduate courses at Japanese universities as research students (either non-degree or degree students).

10 The JET Programme The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, is aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations. An important role of the JET participants is to interact with local communities to promote internationalization at the local level. JET Programme participants from Switzerland are employed as one of the following positions: Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), or Coordinator for International Relations (CIR). Participants to the JET Programme must hold at least a Bachelor‘s degree. Japanese language skills are an advantage for ALTs and a must for CIRs.

11 JET: Assistant Language Teacher (ALT)
These participants are placed mainly in public schools or local boards of education. ALTs assist with classes taught by Japanese Teachers of English/Language (JTEs/JTLs) and are thus involved in the preparation of teaching materials and in extracurricular activities like English clubs or sports teams. Typical duties for an ALT: Assisting with classes taught by JTEs/JTLs Assisting in the preparation of teaching materials Participating in extra-curricular activities with students

12 JET: Coordinator for International Relations (CIR)
Applicants with a functional command of the Japanese language can apply to work as CIRs, assisting local government offices in international exchange activities. Major duties often include translation/interpretation for government officials, teaching community or school English classes, and international exchange event planning and implementation. Duties for a CIR may include: Receiving guests from abroad Editing and producing pamphlets in English or Japanese Advising and planning international exchange programmes Teaching English (or other languages) to government employees and local residents
