2 To form the futur antérieur, use avoir or être in the future and add the past participle of the main verb. Quand jaurai fini mes études, je travaillerai avec ma mère. When I have finished my studies, I will work with my mom. Julie te téléphonera quand maman sera rentrée. Julie will call you when mom has returned. The present participle may also be used instead of a relative clause. This is typical of formal speech and writing. En Chine, les personnes parlant français sont rares. parlant is used in place of qui parlent

6 The present participle as an adjective You can also use the present participle as an adjective to describe something or someone. In this case, it will agree in gender and number with the noun being described. Cest une histoire passionnante. Its an exciting story.

7 Le conditionnel de politesse To form the conditional use the future stem and the imperfect endings: -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient The conditional is used to soften statements, making them sound more polite that the present tense or a command.
