2 Reviewing the Partner Experience
Reflecting on the outcomes of the NHS Employers Diversity Partners Programme

3 Programme Evaluation Applicants Participants Alumni Baseline
Short term Outcomes Longer term Outcomes This slide represents the process of evaluating the 2015/16 Diversity Partners Programme. At application, organisations were asked to complete a proforma based on the EDS, which gave us a baseline for where participants were - at that time - in the D&I journey Now that the programme is drawing to a close, we have been seeking feedback from participants on how the programme has supported action to develop and embed diversity and inclusion. NHS Employers is also keen to understand the longer term outcomes of the programme, so will be following up the progress made by each participant a year from now to see how the good work started and built on during the programme has been sustained beyond it.

4 Short Term Outcomes Evaluation form, completed by each partner organisation Workshop session, examining the outcomes of the programme through discussion and reflection Case studies, highlighting innovative approaches and best practice At this stage, we are focussed on capturing the outcomes of the programme, and will do this in three ways: Evaluation form – already sent out and returned by partner organisations This workshop session, where we will reflect on the outcomes in more depth Case studies from this cohort – NHS Employers keen for

5 Then and Now Reflect on how your organisation has developed over the last 12 months What were your organisation’s principal Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats in embedding equality and diversity? How have they changed over the past year? In pairs, feedback your reflections to each other, capturing your partner’s thoughts on the A3 sheet provided 10 minutes personal reflection. Each individual to have their own copy of their application form 30 minutes feedback in pairs. Each person to capture their partner’s thoughts and feelings on the flipchart sheet provided. Each person will have an A3 sheet split into four quadrants (S-W-O-T) Resources: Copies of original application form for each attendee A3 feedback sheets Pens

6 Then and Now How would you summarise your organisation’s journey over the past year? Is there anything that surprises you? Is there anything that frustrates you? How has the Diversity Partners programme impacted that journey? Feedback: Questions 1 and 2 – general feedback to the whole group Question 3 – record feedback on a flipchart (may need some support from NHSE staff for this)

7 Now and the Future MOTIVATION CAPABILITY Context / Environment
Introduce the Success Model as a tool sometimes used in coaching or mentoring to define success. It helps us look at where we are now, and what success will look like in the future. Made up of three elements: Level of Motivation Reputation among our peers and more widely, whatever is most relevant Capability – our knowledge and skills We can also use this model to look at success in embedding equality, diversity and inclusion within our organisations Context / Environment REPUTATION

8 Now and the Future Draw and annotate three shapes that represent the Motivation, Capability and Reputation of your organisation regarding diversity & inclusion. Why these shapes? What do they mean for you? What do the sizes / intersections signify? How have Partner meetings enhanced organisational Motivation, Capability and Reputation? To be carried out in pairs. Each person in the pair to fold flipchart paper in two and draw diagram on one side of the sheet only Resources: Flipchart paper Coloured marker pens 15 minutes for this exercise

9 Now and the Future What would success look and feel like 12 months from now? To achieve success, how will your diagram need to change? Draw that future diagram. What support might you need from the NHS Employers Diversity & Inclusion Team to achieve success? Pairs to draw second diagram on the other half of the sheet, so that each diagram is side by side 15 minutes Feedback: Bullet Point 1: Ask for two or three pairs to share their success diagrams. Bullet Point 2: Record feedback from each pair on separate flipchart

10 Share the Learning! Share at least one lesson learned from your participation in the Diversity Partners Programme using tag #DIPartners Case studies Telephone call or face to face visit Promoted on website, at events and with programme commissioners Ask attendees to tweet at least one lesson learned from participating in the Partners programme Project the #DIPartners comments on the screen and share some of the contributions with the whole group

11 Next Steps? Timetable for completion and dissemination of evaluation – NHSE colleagues to input Case study volunteers?
