TRADITIONAL DANCES

Traditional Dances As you might now The Czech Republic consists of two main parts Czechia and Moravia Traditional dances accompanied by wearing folk costumes are especially popular in Maravia which is quite far away from Prague

Traditional Dances Therefore our students will not be dancing themselves – not having had much experience with dancing plus they are a bit shy on this topic and also the only girl on our team fell ill recently just when I finally managed to persuade them to practise one of the traditional dances – Polka 3

„Škoda lásky“ Beer Barrel Polka, also known as Roll Out the Barrel, is a song which became popular worldwide during World War II The music was composed by the Czech musician Jaromír Vejvoda in 1927 Its first text was written later (in 1934) by Václav Zeman – with the title Škoda lásky ("Wasted Love") 4

„Škoda lásky“ During World War II, versions in many other languages were created and the song was popular among soldiers, regardless of their alliances  It was claimed many times that the song was written in the country where it had just become a hit Its actual composer was not widely known until after the war 5
